What is Tablature

Tablature is an interactive guitar chord analysis and mapping tool. Select any combination of notes directly on the fretboard to instantly identify and analyze the exact chord structure in real time across the entire neck.

Key Features

  • Real-Time Chord Analysis: Click notes anywhere on the fretboard to immediately reveal chord names, intervals, and inversions.
  • Full-Fretboard Mapping: Build, visualize, and experiment with custom chord voicings along the entire length of the neck.
  • Interactive Fretboard Interface: Easily select, tweak, and test note positions with a responsive visual layout.

How to Use

Select Notes

Click on the fretboard to select notes. Clicking an open string cycles through empty (blank/not selected), open string, and muted string (X). Any selected note is evaluated for chord analysis.

Muted & Open Strings

String inputs left blank (--) or muted (XX) function identically. For instance, selecting ---232 detects a D/A chord, whereas --0232 detects a standard D chord because the open string is included.

View Analysis & Alternates

The primary chord name updates automatically as you build. Up to four alternate chord names will appear below. Click any alternate button to rename the display or click Clear Chord to start fresh.

Work in Progress: This tool is under active development. Please note that saving custom chords and chord progressions is not supported in this version.
